Week 2 #3

One of the 7 1/2 habits that is easiest for me to do is Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning. Our world is changing so fast in every way imagineable...personal and professionally. If we don't attempt to keep up, we WILL get left behind. One of our main goals as educators is to prepare our students for the future. If we don't take the time to learn more about our future and teach our students how to be competitive members of society we aren't doing our job as educators. Accepting responsibility for one's own learning not only is an investment into our own future but also an investment to our students and how well prepared they are for the future once they walk out of our classroom doors.

Habit 3: View problems as challenges is the most difficult for me. It becomes very frustrating when you attempt to learn something new and technology difficulties arise...especially those that are unplanned for. These problems are often what hold individuals back from taking that step forward to learn something new. Sometimes what they could have done "the old fashioned way" may take twice as long using a new tool when unforeseen problems arise. Once you are able to overcome these obstacles, you have learned something and this learned experience is one that you can share with others.

FHS YA Book Club

The second summer read the FHS YA Book Club picked is "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll.
First published in 1865, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was an immediate success, as was its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass. Carroll’s sense of the absurd and his amazing gift for games of logic and language have secured for the Alice books an enduring spot in the hearts of both adults and children.

FHS YA BOOK CLUB

Our FHS YA Book Club has chosen to read two books over the summer. The first is the Kite Runner by Afghan-American Khaled Hosseini.

Review By Ron Franscell at Amazon.com: The earth turns and the wind blows and sometimes some marvelous scrap of paper is blown against the fence for us to find. And once found, we become aware there are places out there that are both foreign and familiar. Funny what the wind brings. And now it brings "The Kite Runner," a beautiful novel that ranks among the best-written and provocative stories ever told.
